Nowadays, the vaccines are one of the most controversial topics. Recently, one of the lead researchers for the Merck drug came clean about the safety of the HPV vaccine. Dr. Diane Harpers has a lot to say about the risks of the HPV vaccine, its benefits, and aggressive marketing.

According to Dr. Diane Harper, parents and young girls should receive the complete warnings before receiving the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. Dr. Harper has authored many of the published, scholarly papers about this vaccine. Even though it is quite strange for a researcher to publicly criticize a medicine or vaccine they helped get approved, she decided to come clean.

The Truth About HPV Vaccine

Dr. Harper claims that the protection for the vaccines doesn’t last for 5 years. Hence, when a girl at 11 gets the shot, there is no reduction in cervical cancers, they are just postponed unless the protection lasts for at least 15 years. Moreover, there are serious side effects reported which show that the vaccine could prove riskier than cervical cancer it purports to prevent. Cervical cancer is usually entirely curable when detected early through normal Pap screenings.

Additionally, there are other adverse effects associated with this vaccine, including

  • at the injection site
  • fainting after vaccination
  • blood clots
  • Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Dr. Harper claims that there are a small number of women who die from cervical cancer in the US mainly because of the success of the Pap screening program and not because of the HPV vaccine.

On the other hand, Dr. Harper agrees with Merck and the CDC that this vaccine is safe for most girls and women. However, it should be known that the protection from the vaccination might not last long enough to provide a cancer protection benefit and that its risks.

Dr. Harper also expresses her concerns regarding the aggressive marketing of the vaccine, which may have given women a false sense of security. So, if women stop doing the Pap screening after vaccination, the cervical cancer rate will actually dramatically increase per year. Although CDC continues to recommend this vaccine for young women and claims that the vaccine’s benefits outweigh its risks, people should be aware of the risks and try to seek more information when it comes to preventing and fighting serious cancer.
